Biking

Santa Fe and the surrounding area offer hundreds of miles of mountain biking trails, featuring all manner of terrain—from high-elevation rugged alpine and densely forested mountain singletrack that can be reached via convenient bus service (255 Mountain Trail Route) to in-town trail systems with multiple access point trailheads to piñon-and-juniper-covered destinations just a 30 to 40 minute drive from downtown Santa Fe, designed with varied-level purpose-built trails.

The area's trails are not only adored by riders, but celebrated by the greater biking community: In 2026, the International Mountain Biking Association designated Santa Fe as one of the nation's first-ever Trail Towns, recognizing the city's leadership in trail development, stewardship, and community engagement. For those who love a gravel bike, there are plenty of paved path options to get you exploring from here to there. And the long open roads and mountain vistas beckon the road cyclist.
